Are you setting the right goals for yourself?

Have you set the right goals for yourself? Or are they leading you down a path that does not align with your life purpose?

If you set goals, but rarely achieve them the problem may be that you are setting the wrong goals.

I beat myself up over this for years. I felt like a boxer who had been left in the ring for one round too many. I had no problem setting goals, but achieving them was a completely different story.

How could this be?

I was doing what the self-help books told me.

  • I wrote my goals down.
  • They were written as though I had already attained them.
  • I gave them a deadline.
  • Post-it notes were stuck on my mirror.
  • I turned them into affirmations that I chanted throughout the day.

Yet none of this seemed to work!

I felt like the only way I was going to achieve my goals was to find a magic lamp. That way I could at least attain three of my goals.

But I quickly found out that genies are rare and are more difficult to discover than the secret to goal achievement. So back to the doodling canvas I went.

As I examined my past failures more closely, I began to make a startling discovery. The goals that I set were not all that inspiring to me. I wanted them, but I did not need them.

At this time in my life, I did not have a clear life purpose, so my goals had nothing to align with. Like this guy in the picture, my goals were taking me down a path that I did not want to take.

If you subconsciously don’t want to do something, guess what, you’re not gonna do it.

So I decided to put a rudder on my aimlessly floating vessel. I created a life purpose that inspires me daily.

“To entertain, motivate and inspire work from home entrepreneurs. I help them achieve their goals, stay organized and live life on their terms.”

Once I had my purpose, I finally started to achieve my goals.

Look deep within yourself. What is your purpose? Why are you here? How can you help other people get what they want?

Answer these questions and create your own life purpose. Then only create goals that align with your master plan.

Now go kick some butt!
